Hi guys! before we start, I would like to thank you for all of your support and stuff! I can't believe I'm already on Part Seven! I am doing an "Advice and Stuff" thing where you can give me advice and stuff about my writing and all of that jazz. You can find it here. Okie Dokie, let's get onto it.
Chapter Seven: Fear Doesn't Need Doors or Windows
I stood dumbstruck.
"Practice? On you?" I gasped.
"Oh trust me, you can't kill me. Being able to kill through my ability also can make me able to control death, and therefore defy it if I wish to. I will know when my time is up, and I will die then. But if death is forced upon me like it is through our ability, then I can defy it." she said in her bizarre whispery voice. I wished she would stop being so poetic. Poetry ruins everything.
"Ah yes, I should trust an elf who I barely know not to die when I try to kill her. Makes sense." I said, my voice coated in sarcasm. "Oh, and remind me again, this is completely untested, right? Because, you know, I'm the only other Mortier in existence."
"I have tried to kill myself before to test this. and I have succeeded. so trust me."
I focused every bit of that weird 'death' feeling into my bod and thrust it out of me. I didn't let the anger that was mingled in the feeling take over, nor the sadness. I just let myself stay calm. She looked at me and nodded.
"Had I not been a Mortier, I would've died," she said. 'whatever,' I thought to myself. 'now's not the time for your dumb poetry,'
-------------------------------
"Ok, so what's our plan?" Bian asked.
"To be honest? I don't know." I replied. "But I figure we should start with finding out who this 'Thistle Insurgency' is, and why they chose such a weird name."
"Well, a thistle is a type of plant. It's kinda poky, but it has a flower, so maybe they're mean but nice?" she suggested lamely.
"Gee Sherlock, no one could've thought of that," I said, rolling my eyes.
"Well, do you have any better ideas?" she snapped.
"No, but let's think. What would these people want? Why would they want Alvin?" I said. Alvin wasn't a particularly well-known person, despite the fact that his dad was infamous, so what would a rebellion want with him?
We were both silent for a moment before Bian spoke up. "His dad is an important figure. He shows how bad matches don't mean bad children. Dex is probably the most powerful technopath this world has known, and if that's the product of a bad match... " she trailed off.
"Ok, so you're saying that they must want to have leverage against Dex? That they want Alvin because they think they could use him against Dex because Dex is a threat?" I asked.
"I dunno."
But somehow the scariest part of the whole thing wasn't the fact that Alvin was taken. But the fact that we didn't know who took him.
Again, short chapter, but I posted earlier today.
