Hi guys! So, I'm doing a little section where I want you to give me advice on my writing! I will be focusing on certain bits of advice every chapter. You can comment on things you think I should work on here.
For this chapter, I will be working on writing less dialogue and describing things more.
Chapter Eight: Secrets Inside and Out
Bian and I were in my room, trying to find out who the Thistle Insurgency were, when something hit me.
"God, I can't believe I forgot!" I whispered. I practically sprinted over to my desk, which was covered in papers and books. I pushed them all to the ground and found what I was looking for.
The tarnished silver glimpsed at me, and I lifted it up. The light caught on the locket, and then I remembered. It was a disappointment.
After Bian and I had opened the locket, I was disappointed. it was empty. No secret letter, no code, Only a couple numbers engraved in the cold metal. 127388.
"What if it's a code?" she said.
"No really, never thought of that one." I rolled my eyes. The light reflected off of the inside, which was surprisingly intact and shiny. I noticed something right then. The clasp on the locket had small holes, like someone had placed tiny crystals there, and they had been removed.
"Hey, look at this," I said, my fingers tracing the edge of it. "It looks like there were crystals removed from it."
"Must've been a leaping crystal kit. But that doesn't explain why there aren't specific degrees for it. Those numbers could serve as one, but they usually are written differently." Bian suggested.
"That does make sense... What if those numbers were a code? So that if someone found the locket before it was used, they wouldn't be able to follow them. But why would the crystals be missing? Did Alvin use it?" I asked. I didn't like the idea that Alvin was secretly involved in some rebellion. The sun was setting and it was getting late.
"I vote we call it a night. I'm exhausted." Bian said with a yawn. I showed Bian to the door, waved goodbye, and then she leaped away.
I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep. I got into my pajamas, sat at my desk with a cup of coffee, and tried to decode it. Then I found the key.
I held up a small, round mirror to the numbers, making them a mirror reflection of themselves, and it read 127388.
I pulled out my cipher book and looked through. I finally flipped to the right page and found the answer.
So simple. Too simple. But I had found the degrees for the leaping crystal.
----------------------
Short chapter again folks, but this one was a bit harder to write, and as you know, I live for making you stop reading on cliffhangers. I won't be posting for a couple more days because I wanna plan it out a bit more precisely, cause right now I have an idea of where I wanna go with this.
